Cafe

Coffee Street / Main Street corridor

1 E Coffee St

Tucked just below street level on Coffee Street, this sunken cafe feels like Greenville’s honest morning secret. Exposed brick, a steady queue, and a counter manned by baristas who know how to pull a proper flat white set the tone. It’s the kind of place where office crowds, local parents and curious visitors collide over cheddar biscuit breakfast sandwiches, flaky croissants and a slice of apple cider pie. Seating is mostly indoor and intimate, the acoustics favor conversation over loud music, and the pace is brisk but never rushed. Locals treat it as a daily ritual; out-of-towners leave delighted they wandered off Main Street. There’s nothing precious about the place—no sterile espresso theater—just reliably good coffee, honest breakfast fare and a friendly staff who keep the line moving. For a morning fix in downtown Greenville, it’s as close to essential as anywhere on this side of the Reedy.

Smileys on the Roxx

Smileys on the Roxx is a downtown Greenville institution where beer, loud guitars and a well-worn dance floor collide. The room is compact and honest: low ceilings, scruffy posters, an upstairs wooden floor that rattles under salsa boots. Live music runs nightly in two sets so the place works for early diners and night owls alike; Wednesdays are live band karaoke and Thursdays turn upstairs into a sweaty Latin dance social after a short lesson. The menu is unapologetically simple—Angus burger with bacon, teriyaki wings and tater tots that command loyalty—paired with strong margaritas and sangria. Owners and regular performers move through the crowd like hosts at a backyard party and the staff remembers names. Locals treat it like Cheers and visitors get the best of Greenville’s grassroots music scene here: sweaty, social, slightly rough around the edges and utterly welcoming. It’s the kind of bar where musicians, salsa dancers and ordinary night-drinkers share the same sticky table and leave smiling.

Skibo Road

Group Therapy Pub & Playground

Group Therapy Pub & Playground is less a bar and more a backyard carnival with a conscience. The covered front patio is anchored by a massive screen where Sunday football fills the air, while inside and out you’ll find themed miniature golf, bowling lanes, axe throwing, darts and a rowdy sports bar with a self-serve beer wall. Fridays turn karaoke into a community ritual and Saturdays bring a DJ that makes even casual weeknights feel like a party. It’s kid-friendly if you arrive early—there’s a small playground that empties out after evening—and also built for adults who want games and cold pours without pretense. Staff create the atmosphere: expect a bartender who remembers your drink and a server who’ll run the whole party. Locals treat it like a reliable gathering spot; visitors land here for the spectacle and leave feeling like regulars. It’s messy in the best way: loud, generous, and designed so you can loosen up and stay for another round of putt putt.

Camperdown

United Community

United Community’s downtown Greenville branch feels less like a faceless financial office and more like a tidy, serious storefront for community life. The branch sits on Camperdown Way with a clean, bright lobby, polished teller counters and large windows that let in the downtown rhythm. Most visits are matter-of-fact exchanges: locals dropping by for routine banking, small-business owners sorting payroll, older customers who know the tellers by name. Staff move with efficient patience and the parking makes a quick errand painless. At the same time there is a charged undercurrent: the institution carries the weight of at least one painful personnel allegation that the community still talks about, a reminder that local institutions are human and fallible. For visitors, it’s a convenient, well-maintained place to handle in-person needs; for residents it’s a neighborhood anchor that blends modern branch design with small-town familiarity. If you need a straightforward, no-nonsense downtown bank experience, this branch delivers—just know the community around it is engaged and keeps institutions accountable.

Via Corso

1103 Via Corso Ave

Tucked away in the tranquil neighborhoods of Simpsonville, 1103 Via Corso Ave stands as a quiet testament to Southern residential charm. The avenue is shaded by mature trees and lined with tidy lawns that speak of a close-knit community, where neighbors still greet each other on afternoon strolls. There’s an undercurrent of suburban calm here—no bustling storefronts or neon lights, just the gentle rhythm of daily life. The architecture hints at modern comfort blended with traditional touches, reflecting the steady evolution of small-town South Carolina. While tourists might speed through en route to Greenville’s bustle, locals know this address is more than just a waypoint; it’s part of the fabric that weaves together Simpsonville’s sense of place. In a world chasing spectacle, sometimes the most authentic experiences are found in these unassuming corners, where families gather for backyard barbecues and front porch conversations last long into summer evenings.

The Foundry at Judson Mill
Event Venue

Judson Mill District

The Foundry at Judson Mill

Tucked inside the revitalized Judson Mill complex, The Foundry pulses with the energy of a true Southern gathering hall. On any given night, the cavernous space transforms—sometimes it’s a country line-dancing free-for-all, boots stomping on polished concrete beneath industrial beams, sometimes it’s a Latin DJ party that draws in Greenville’s Hispanic community for hours of cumbia and salsa. There’s nothing sterile or corporate here: the crowd is young, diverse, and out for connection as much as music. Local bands and touring acts take full advantage of the powerful sound system, while seasoned bartenders hustle to keep up with demand. Whether you come for Wednesday’s free line dancing lessons or a ticketed concert, there’s an authentic, unvarnished edge—this is a place where people sweat on the dance floor and spill drinks without apology. A cultural crossroads for upstate South Carolina, The Foundry bridges old mill town grit with the city’s new creative spirit. It attracts everyone from locals in cowboy boots to newcomers chasing a taste of something real.

Downtown

Upcountry History Museum

Step inside the Upcountry History Museum and you’re greeted with more than just exhibits—this place is a lively crossroads between Greenville’s past and its present, a fixture where families, school groups, and curious wanderers converge. The space feels approachable, with time-themed galleries that make it easy to wander through centuries in a single afternoon. Kids dart from interactive scavenger hunts to hands-on cotton factory stations, while parents linger over dioramas of local musicians or WWII artifacts. Rotating exhibits—one month Lady Bird Johnson’s rail journey, another, a vintage Pepsi display—keep things fresh for repeat visitors. There’s an unmistakable sense of community pride here: locals see their stories told with care, while out-of-towners get a crash course in the region’s textile heritage and cultural quirks. Staff are warm and welcoming, always ready with a tip about what not to miss or where to stash your coat. This isn’t just a museum; it’s an anchor for upstate identity, bridging generations and backgrounds under one roof.

Simpsonville

CCNB Amphitheatre at Heritage Park

CCNB Amphitheatre at Heritage Park pulses with the raw electricity of a Southern summer night—10,000 strong, from families on picnic blankets to diehards pressed up against the stage. The open-air setting trades velvet ropes for grass underfoot and a sky bleeding indigo as dusk falls. There’s a democratic feel here: every ticket, whether for a seat or a patch of lawn, promises that heady communion that only live music brings. Vendors dish out pizza slices big enough to count as dinner while local teens chatter by concession stands and longtime locals reminisce about past legendary acts. Navigating crowds can be an adventure—parking is sprawling, lines can snake long, but camaraderie prevails. Weather is its own guest; prepare for rain or heat and you’ll fit right in with regulars who know the drill. More than just a venue, this amphitheater acts as Simpsonville’s beating heart for concerts and community gatherings—a place where generations share songs and stories under the stars.

Cleveland Park

Greenville Zoo

Nestled alongside Cleveland Park’s leafy trails, Greenville Zoo feels like a neighborhood secret more than a sprawling wildlife spectacle. Here, winding shaded paths invite families and curious wanderers to linger close to habitats—giraffes nuzzle lettuce from outstretched hands, orangutans peer back with intelligent eyes, and the elusive red panda dozes in its perch. The scale is intimate: you can circle the grounds in under two hours without feeling rushed. It’s an experience stripped of grandeur but rich in small discoveries—a child’s laughter by the playground, grandparents marveling at tortoises, locals dropping in for a spontaneous outing. This isn’t just a tourist stop; it’s woven into Greenville’s rhythm, serving as both an anchor for young families and a gentle reminder of nature’s wonder right in the city core. Conservation stories echo quietly through thoughtful signage and well-kept enclosures, making each visit feel meaningful yet refreshingly unpretentious.

Southernside Brewing Co.

At the edge of Greenville’s Unity Park, Southernside Brewing Co. feels less like a standard taproom and more like an all-ages urban playground with just enough edge for grown-up fun. The sprawling indoor-outdoor setup is alive with the clatter of duckpins, laughter from the arcade, and the steady hum of conversation over pints. Dogs sprawl at their owners’ feet on the turf, kids dart between picnic tables clutching fries, and couples linger with flights of hazy IPA as live bluegrass echoes across the patio. This is where the city’s cyclists and walkers refuel after conquering the Swamp Rabbit Trail, where families gather for comfort food that’s a cut above—think spicy chicken sandwiches overflowing their buns and perfectly crisp fried pickles. Southernside isn’t about ceremony or pretense; here, communal tables foster easy connections and big gatherings are welcomed with warm hospitality. A vintage ambulance and half-track anchor the space, while children gravitate to a hands-on “touch table.” Guides move through the exhibits as storytellers rather than docents, eager to chat about battles or hometown heroes—sometimes even referencing local legends honored in special displays. The place hums with community effort: donations fund repairs, and the collection grows through neighbors’ generosity. It’s a crossroads for veterans recounting their stories and families discovering regional history; visitors leave having brushed up against Greenville’s own connections to global conflicts. Free admission keeps it accessible, but dropping a few bills into the jar feels like joining a circle of caretakers preserving memory for the Upstate.

Shelves brim with artifacts—Girl Scout sashes, railroad memorabilia, dog-eared books—each piece tethered to a family or street corner nearby. The displays rotate with the seasons, echoing the cycles of this small town: one visit might reveal tales from Spring Park; another, the grit behind the railroad or local schools. Volunteers greet you by name if you’re from around here—or hand you a map and their favorite lunch spot if you’re not. Even though it is by no means Greenville's only park, Falls Park on the Reedy holds a special place as the crown jewel of our thriving downtown. The park is filled with flower beds and walking paths that meander serenely around the beloved Reedy River Falls (that's right, a waterfall in the heart of downtown!). These paths are often filled with people enjoying strolls along the riverbanks, regularly accompanied by their furry four-legged friends. Over the falls spans the remarkable feat of engineering that is the 345-foot Liberty Bridge. Built to emphasize the falls, the sculptured concrete bridge has a distinctive curve and is the only one of its kind in the entire U.S. The Liberty Bridge offers a lovely view of the park that is sure to make you pause and snap a few photos! Come summertime, Falls Park on the Reedy becomes a stage for kings and star-crossed lovers during The Warehouse Theatre's Upstate Shakespeare Festival. Liberty Bridge

After just one look at the 345 foot long, 12 foot wide, and 8 inches thick bridge suspending high above Falls Park on the Reedy River, it may be hard to believe that the construction of this project only took 12 months! Constructed by Taylor and Murphy Construction Co. of Asheville, NC, designed by bridge architect Miquel Rosales of Boston, and engineered by Schlaich Bergermann, the beautifully crafted bridge is described to be “floating on air.” The concrete, reinforced deck of the Liberty Bridge is supported by just a single suspension cable (daunting, right?) But don’t worry! The strength of the bridge is truly unmatched as the cable systems that work with and against each other support the bridge and hold its miraculous curvature. You may be familiar with similar structural work built in Europe, but Greenville’s Liberty Bridge is a one-of-a-kind creation, and you simply cannot find anything else like it in the United States. It’s hard not to miss this breathtaking structure in the center of downtown Greenville. It draws in countless visitors every year to experience the vantage point of Falls Park like no other. From panoramic views of the numerous gardens and rushing waterfall below to the bustling city scene, all while getting from one side of the bridge to another, you will soon be able to tell why the Liberty Bridge is a visitor’s favorite!

Devils Fork State Park

Devils Fork State Park is nestled in the middle of the breath-taking Jocassee Gorges. These gorges are a series of steep rock walls along the Blue Ridge Escarpment carrying dozens of mountain rivers down into the vast, 7,500-acre Lake Jocassee. Originally constructed in 1973, this lake remains mostly undeveloped, and many of its elusive waterfalls can only be discovered by boat. These waters are also home to some of South Carolina's best trout fishing. Jocassee is a Cherokee word meaning "Place of the Lost One" and the park offers a doorway into Lake Jocassee's ancient grandeur. The lake was created when the land's mountain rivers were redirected to flood what was once known as Jocassee Valley. Today, dozens of forgotten houses and camps rest quietly beneath the lake's clear blue surface and can be explored by scuba divers. The Eastatoees, the only species of parrot native to North America, also once called this land home. Its last known sighting was in 1903, here, in the Place of the Lost One. Among the park's hidden treasures in March and April is the rare Oconee Bell. This delicate wildflower lives only in the Southern Appalachian mountains, where the mild climate and heavy rainfalls form the sole temperate rainforest on the East Coast. Overnight guests can stay in fully-furnished villas or in one of two campgrounds located near Lake Jocassee.

Caesars Head gives hikers an easily accessible, panoramic view of this natural wonder, as well as the 13,000 acres of pristine mountain woodland that is the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area. Here, the Middle Saluda River meets the stone outcroppings of the Escarpment, creating an array of dramatic waterfalls including the 420-foot mountain cascade that is Raven Cliff Falls. A network of easy-to-strenuous hiking trails meander through the park's forests, allow hikers to explore the area and even to hike all the way to the neighboring Jones Gap State Park. The Middle Saluda River also offers some of the area's best fishing with brook, rainbow, and brown trout all calling these waters home. The Intersection was a location years in the making. When we were approached about having a space in First Presbyterian Church, we were both excited and cautious. It was an incredible opportunity but we also knew this shop would look different from anything we had ever done before and we wanted to make sure it would be the right fit, both for us and them. Through many conversations we came to better understand the vision of what they wanted this space to be. It is named “The Intersection” because it is a place where worlds can come together that otherwise would often remain separated. How many healing, renewing, and eye opening conversations happen every day over a cup of coffee? The entire purpose behind this cafe existing is to provide the space for those types of conversations to happen.

Get a glass of wine or beer and stroll between the shelves or lounge on the patio. If it all sounds good, stay all day ;) It’s important to Camilla Kitchen that everything they do and use comes from real people with their own stories. Between the ingredients they gather, the recipes they use, and the people that do the making and eating, a million stories are combined into something new. And they think you can taste the difference.

Soby's

Soby’s New South Cuisine is where Greenville’s past and present meet over a plate of refined Southern comfort. Housed in a restored 19th-century warehouse on Main Street, this Table 301 flagship has set the city’s dining standard since 1997. Chef-driven menus celebrate the Upstate’s bounty—fried green tomatoes crowned with house pimento cheese, lump crab cakes with sweet-corn relish, and shrimp-and-grits built on Anson Mills corn and smoky andouille. An airy bar mixes inventive Southern-inspired cocktails, while the patio invites lingering beneath downtown’s twinkling lights. Yet a real showpiece rises behind glass: a large cellar holding more than 4,000 bottles curated by Wine Director John Mitchell. In 2025, Soby’s received the prestigious Wine Spectator Grand Award—the world’s highest honor for a restaurant wine program—making it the first restaurant in South Carolina to ever earn the distinction and is recommended in the 2025 MICHELIN Guide to the American South. From cult Cabernet and grower Champagne to emerging biodynamic estates, guests can explore every major region with guidance from a knowledgeable sommelier team. Greenville continues to evolve, but one thing doesn't change and that's the warm and genuine hospitality that has made Soby’s New South Cuisine a Greenville landmark for locals, business travelers, and curious food lovers alike.
