Located along the Piedmont Plateau, this 1,165-acre park was originally constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. Many of the buildings and cabins have been maintained and are still in use today. Here, wooded nature trails wind through the foothills region and serve as the southern trailhead for the Foothills Trial, South Carolina's iconic 77-mile wilderness trail along the dramatic Blue Ridge Escarpment. The park features 20-acre and 12-acre lakes filled with catfish, bream, bass. They are also stocked with trout in the colder months for anglers who enjoy the crisp air of a winter day. Campground Lake features a fishing pier, and visitors can rent kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, pedal boats, and non-motorized fishing boats to cruise the waters. Oconee State Park offers a plethora of camping options. The main campground's sites offer individual water and electricity hookups as well as picnic tables and restrooms/hot shower facilities. Tent camping is available 100 yards off the main campground and includes tent pads and centralized water. Primitive group camping is also available. The park also has cabin lodging. Each cabin has a fireplace, a screened porch, an outdoor grill, a refrigerator, a stove, and a microwave. These cabins are furnished, heated, cooled, and include linens as well as cooking utensils.
