Pro Tip

"Pick up your Ultimate Outsider guide at the gift shop to start your SC parks adventure."

Kings Mountain State Park is steeped in over 6,000-acres of Southern history. The park is adjacent to Kings Mountain National Military Park, a historical Revolutionary War site. Inside the park is a replica 19th-century Yeoman Farm. The farm consists of a house, barn, cotton gin, farm animals, garden, blacksmith, and weave shop as well as farm animals. The farm grows a variety of heirloom species of crops and herbs. It also has fruit trees and a small grape vineyard. The park regularly hosts Living History demonstrations throughout the year. Kings Mountain also has two lakes built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. The 63-acre Lake York is perfect for water activities such as fishing, boating, and kayaking. Kayaks, canoes, and non-motorized boats are available for rental. The lake contains bass, bream, crappie, and catfish. The park is located in the eastern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. It has plenty of hiking trails that traverse rolling hills, dense forests, and stone outcroppings. The park also has an equestrian trail that crosses into the historical battlefield of Kings Mountain National Military Park. Kings Mountain State Park has plenty of RV and tent camping options, as well as picnic sites for the whole family to enjoy.
